With 30,000 students, 15 faculties, a hospital and health sciences centre, the University is recognised as a vital part of the region, with one of the most ethnically and culturally rich campuses in America.
UIC is a national leader among urban, public higher education institutions in providing access to underrepresented students. Through its research and education programs, the University is committed to eliminating disparities in health, education and economic opportunity, and is dedicated to community engagement, working with its surrounding neighbourhood and government partners to improve the quality of life in Chicago and in metropolitan areas around the world.
IGNITE – the campaign for UIC was launched this past October. Having raised nearly $300 million towards a $750 million target, the University aims to secure funds to provide student scholarships, support endowed faculty positions, equip faculties with the latest technology for teaching and research, and build new facilities to improve the campus infrastructure.
Recent gifts include $7.2 million from an alum of the College of Nursing to create an advanced simulation centre, $3 million to establish an endowed scholarship for high achieving high school students, and $5 million to build a new sport stadium.
One third of its students are first generation college students and for one quarter of the students, English is not their first language. With broad support from local foundations, corporations, countless alumni and civic leaders, UIC stands as an example of how public institutions, with the generous support of its donors, are poised to meet the challenges of the next century.
